Kerala tourist places near Coimbatore: which can you visit?

From Coimbatore you can reach all of Kerala's main tourist regions: the hill stations of Munnar, Thekkady and Wayanad, the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom, the beaches of Varkala and Kovalam, and temples such as Guruvayur and Sabarimala.

Kerala is Coimbatore's neighbour. The Western Ghats form a wall along the state's eastern side, "interrupted only near Palakkad", and the road from Coimbatore runs through that gap. Palakkad is the first Kerala district on the way, and our shortest trips start there.

  • Hills and tea. Munnar at about 1,600 m, with tea estates and Eravikulam National Park. Thekkady beside the 777 sq km Periyar Tiger Reserve and its spice plantations. Wayanad with the Edakkal Caves and Vythiri.
  • Backwaters. Alleppey, called the "Venice of the East" by Kerala Tourism, and Kumarakom on Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in Kerala.
  • Beaches. Varkala, where red laterite cliffs meet the sea, and Kovalam and Poovar further south.
  • Waterfalls. Athirapally and Vazhachal, less than 5 km apart, in the Sholayar forest range.
  • Temples. Guruvayur, Sabarimala and the Kerala temples tour (Guruvayur, Chottanikkara and Vaikom).

How many days do you need for a Kerala trip from Coimbatore?

Two days covers one region, such as Munnar or a houseboat night in Alleppey. Four to five days cover two regions, like Munnar and Thekkady. A week fits hills, backwaters and a beach. The 12-day Kerala circuit runs the full state. Pick the length first; the places follow from it.

Every package below starts and ends in Coimbatore. Prices are per person, based on 2 travelling together.

Package Length From (per person)
Palakkad Heritage Day Tour 1 day ₹1,499
Guruvayur Thrissur 2 days, 1 night ₹5,499

Thekkady 2 days 2 days, 1 night ₹7,500
Kumarakom 2 days 2 days, 1 night ₹8,200

Kerala 7 days 7 days, 6 nights ₹19,999
Kerala 12 days 12 days, 11 nights ₹34,999

If you cannot decide, start with the 5-day Munnar Thekkady Alleppey package, which puts a hill station, a wildlife reserve and a backwater night in one loop. Longer routes such as the Kerala 7 days package and the Kerala 12 days package add beaches and the south.

How much does a Kerala tour package from Coimbatore cost?

A Kerala tour package from Coimbatore starts at ₹1,499 per person for a one-day Palakkad trip and ₹5,499 for 2 days, rises to ₹19,999 for 7 days, and ₹34,999 for 12 days. Prices are per person, based on 2 travelling together. One price covers vehicle, driver, hotel, toll, parking, permit and entry tax.

Price changes with the number of nights, the hotels, the distance covered and the dates you travel. A 2-day Thekkady trip and a 6-day Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey tour differ mainly in hotel nights and kilometres. Several packages show a price range, and your quote fixes the exact figure for your group. Meals, entry tickets and personal expenses are extra.

Our hotels are 3-star or similar and named in the quote before you pay. The Kerala permit and entry tax, are already included.

Best time to visit Kerala

The best months for most Kerala trips are October to March, when the weather is drier and the hills and beaches are easiest to enjoy. The southwest monsoon brings about 65% of the state's rain from June to August, and the northeast monsoon adds more from September to December. April and May are hot on the plains.

Months What to expect
June to August Heaviest rain. Green and quiet. Good for Ayurveda stays and waterfalls in full flow, harder for beaches and long drives.
September to December Rain continues, then eases. Hill stations clear up from November.
December to February The popular season for Munnar, Thekkady, Wayanad and beaches. Book early around Christmas and New Year.
March to May Hot on the plains and coast, comfortable in the hills. Good for Munnar, Wayanad and Vagamon.

Some places have their own timing. Kerala Tourism says Athirappilly has the highest water flow in the monsoon, while winter is the most pleasant season there. Eravikulam National Park near Munnar closes every year in February and March for the Nilgiri tahr calving season. At Kumarakom, migratory birds are present from November to February.

What a Kerala package from Coimbatore includes

Each package includes pickup in Coimbatore, an AC vehicle with our driver, fuel, toll, parking, the Kerala permit and entry tax, and hotel nights in a 3-star or similar hotel. Meals, entry tickets and personal expenses are extra. The hotel is named in your quote before you pay, and the same driver stays with the group from the first morning to the last evening.

We are based in Ganapathy, Coimbatore, and the vehicles are our own. You can be picked up at home, a hotel, the airport, the railway station or the bus stand. The driver knows the ghat roads, which matters on the Munnar, Thekkady and Wayanad routes.

Kerala trips that combine several places

Most Coimbatore families do one or two regions on a trip, not all of Kerala. These combinations are on our list:

For a one day trip from Coimbatore to Kerala, the Palakkad Malampuzha one-day tour is the simplest choice. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 93426 62373 with your dates and group size and we will suggest a route.

Kerala tour package FAQs

Do I need a permit to drive into Kerala from Coimbatore?

Our quote includes the Kerala permit and entry tax, so you do not pay anything at the border.

Which Kerala place is closest to Coimbatore?

Palakkad is the first Kerala district on the road from Coimbatore, and we run a one-day Palakkad tour. For an overnight trip, look at our Nelliyampathy and Athirapally packages.

Can I see Kerala in 3 days from Coimbatore?

Yes, in one region. Choose Munnar, Wayanad or Guruvayur with Athirapally; trying to cover hills, backwaters and beaches in 3 days means long drives.

Is a houseboat stay included?

The 2-day Alleppey houseboat package is built around a houseboat night. For longer routes that include Alleppey, the package page and your quote confirm what is included.

Is Kerala good to visit in the monsoon?

It is green and quiet, and good for Ayurveda stays and waterfalls. June to August is the heaviest rain, so allow extra time on hill roads.

Do you offer Kerala trekking?

No. Our packages are vehicle-based sightseeing, so we do not sell Kerala trekking.

What is not included in a Kerala package?

Meals, entry tickets and personal expenses.
