Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Coimbatore to Guruvayur, temple, Mammiyoor, Punnathur Kotta
We leave early and reach Guruvayur by late morning. After hotel check-in you visit Punnathur Kotta first, while the elephants are out, then rest through the afternoon closing. Evening darshan at the Sri Krishna Temple and Mammiyoor, about 200 metres away. Night in Guruvayur. Families who want the early-morning darshan the next day can do it before checkout.
Day 2: Thrissur Vadakkunnathan and Paramekkavu, return to Coimbatore
A short drive to Thrissur for Vadakkunnathan Temple and Paramekkavu Bhagavathi Temple, which stand close together in the town centre. Then back to Coimbatore by evening.
How far is it from Coimbatore?
Guruvayur is roughly 140 km from Coimbatore through Palakkad and Thrissur, about 3.5 to 4 hours. Thrissur is on the way back.
Temples and places you will see
Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple. About 29 km northwest of Thrissur. The Thrissur district page on main pilgrim centres gives the hours: the temple opens at 3 am, closes from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm, and stays open till 9.15 pm. Only Hindus may enter. Men wear a mundu without a shirt; women wear a saree, or a churidar, as allowed by the Devaswom. The dress code can change, so check the Devaswom site before you go.
Mammiyoor Mahadeva Temple. A Shiva temple about 200 metres northwest of Guruvayur temple, open 4.30 am to 12.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm (same district page). Devotees traditionally visit it with Guruvayur.
Punnathur Kotta (Anakotta). An old palace about 2 km from the temple where the Guruvayur Devaswom keeps its elephants, as the Thrissur district page on Punnathur Kotta describes. It also runs a training school for mahouts.
Vadakkunnathan Temple, Thrissur. The Shiva temple that gives Thrissur its name, built in classic Kerala style with a gopuram on each side. Paramekkavu Bhagavathi Temple nearby is one of the two main temples in the Thrissur Pooram festival. See the official Guruvayur Devaswom website for poojas and offerings.
Best time to go
Guruvayur is busy all year. Weekends, Malayalam month starts, Ekadasi and the wedding season bring long queues, so weekdays are calmer. Thrissur Pooram falls in April or May and makes Thrissur very crowded; plan around it unless the Pooram is why you are going. Ekadasi and Pooram dates change every year, so tell us your dates and we will say if they clash.
Vehicle for your group size
The vehicle is part of the package price. We match it to your group, and you can ask for a different one.

Visiting the elephants at Punnathur Kotta
Mornings are the best time at the camp, when the elephants are bathed and fed. Visiting hours and any entry fee are set by the Guruvayur Devaswom and can change, so we check them for your travel date. We put the camp first on Day 1 for that reason. Keep a distance from the elephants and follow the mahouts' instructions.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Guruvayur trip include?
Your AC vehicle and driver for 2 days, pickup and drop in Coimbatore, 1 night's stay, the temples on this page, and fuel, toll, parking and driver charges. Darshan tickets, offerings and meals are paid by you. The quote lists every inclusion.
When should we visit the elephant camp on a temple day?
The camp at Punnathur Kotta is best in the morning. We plan the visit before the temple's afternoon closing, so you do not lose darshan time, and we check the camp's current hours for your date.
Can you book special darshan or a thulabharam?
Bookings for special darshan and offerings are made through the Guruvayur Devaswom, not by us. Our driver can take you to the counter, and the Devaswom website lists the current booking method.
Can my elderly parents manage this trip?
Yes, the walking is short and the pace is slow. The queue at Guruvayur can be long on busy days, so we suggest a weekday and the early-morning darshan.
Who should pick a different package?
If the family wants a waterfall day too, take the Guruvayur and Athirapally 3-day trip. If Thrissur and a waterfall are enough, try Athirapally and Thrissur in 2 days. For more temples, the 4-day Kerala temples circuit adds Kochi and Kottayam. For a hill shrine pilgrimage, there is a three-day Sabarimala trip.
How do we pay, and what if we cancel?
A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
