Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Up to Ooty

    Pickup in Coimbatore and up the Nilgiris ghat past Coonoor. Afternoon at Ooty Lake, where you can take a boat out, and the Botanical Garden next door. Night in Ooty.

  2. Day 2: Ooty to Wayanad, Edakkal Caves

    Down the far side of the Nilgiris through Gudalur into Wayanad. Afternoon at Edakkal Caves, about 300 steps up, where Kerala Tourism dates the oldest engravings to around 6000 BC. Night in Wayanad.

  3. Day 3: Bandipur safari and on to Mysore

    North through the forest to Bandipur. The safari is run by the Karnataka Forest Department and booked through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve site; seats sell out, so we book them when you confirm, if available. Safari slots and fees are set by the forest department and change by season, so we confirm them for your dates. Then on to Mysore. Night in Mysore.

  4. Day 4: Mysore Palace and Brindavan Gardens

    Morning at Mysore Palace. Karnataka Tourism notes it is lit with 97,000 bulbs during evening illuminations. Late afternoon you drive to Brindavan Gardens, about 21 km away below the KRS dam, for the musical fountain: 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM on weekdays and to 8 PM on weekends and holidays, per Karnataka Tourism. Night in Mysore.

  5. Day 5: Mysore to Coimbatore

    After breakfast we drive back to Coimbatore, about 200 km and around 4.5 to 5.5 hours with stops, and drop you at your pickup point by evening.

Best time to go

October to March suits all three places: clear in Ooty, dry in Wayanad and pleasant in Mysore. Mysore is busiest during Dasara (September or October), when hotels cost more. Safaris run most of the year but can pause in the monsoon or fire season.

₹22,000 to ₹26,500 per person. Your figure depends on dates, hotels and group size; the vehicle cost is shared, so a family of 6 pays less each than a couple. We send a sedan for up to 4, an Ertiga or Innova for 6 or 7, and a Tempo Traveller or Urbania for larger groups, named in your quote.

Mysore to Ooty distance and the forest road

The Nilgiris district gives the Mysore to Ooty distance as 160 km. The road crosses Bandipur and Mudumalai, and the forest stretch closes to traffic at night, which is why our day plan never drives this section after dark. Some travellers try to fit Mysore and Ooty into one day and underestimate this: the closure and the hairpins make a same-day return a very long day.

Frequently asked questions

Can we start in Mysore instead?

All our trips start and end in Coimbatore. The circuit also works in the other direction: Coimbatore to Mysore, Bandipur, Wayanad and Ooty, then back down to Coimbatore. If you want a Mysore Ooty tour package without Wayanad, see the 4 day Mysore and Ooty holiday.

Can we take the Mysore to Ooty bus instead?

You can. KSRTC and Tamil Nadu buses run the route, and you can check Mysore to Ooty KSRTC bus timings and fares on KSRTC's booking site. A bus will not stop for a safari, Edakkal or the gardens, and you still need a car in each town. That is the gap a private car fills: one car and driver for every day.

Is this trip good for a honeymoon?

What if the Bandipur safari is sold out?

Safari seats are run by the forest department and sell out; we book them when available. If there are none, we drive through Bandipur on the highway, where you may still see deer and elephants from the road, and you are not charged a safari fee.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded. Your written quote also states exactly what is included, including any extra kilometres. The Kerala and Karnataka vehicle permit and entry tax are included in the price.

Who should pick a different package?

If you only have 3 days, the Ooty and Coonoor trip is calmer. For Wayanad alone, take the Wayanad 4 days trip, or try Wayanad in 3 days for a shorter stay. For Mysore alone, see Mysore in 2 days. Women travelling together may prefer our women-only South India tour.
