Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Munnar via Chinnar and Marayoor

    Your driver picks you up in Coimbatore and heads south through Udumalpet, across the Chinnar forest and up through Marayoor. It is a slower, emptier road than the Kochi side, with stops wherever you want photos. Check in by late afternoon. Overnight in Munnar.

  2. Day 2: Mattupetty, Echo Point, Kundala and Top Station

    A full day on the Top Station road: Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala lake, and the Top Station viewpoint at the end. Back in Munnar by evening.

  3. Day 3: Eravikulam, Tea Museum, photo stops and leisure time

    Morning at Eravikulam National Park, then the Tea Museum and a few tea-garden photo stops. The afternoon is free. Rest at the hotel, walk in town, or ask your driver for a quiet viewpoint.

  4. Day 4: Lakkam Falls and return

    Check out and drive back by the Marayoor road, stopping at Lakkam Falls on the way. You reach Coimbatore by evening.

How far / how to reach

Munnar is about 160 km from Coimbatore by the Udumalpet, Chinnar and Marayoor road, around 4.5 to 5 hours with stops. The Munnar Wildlife Division lists Coimbatore airport at about 175 km from Eravikulam, so flying into Coimbatore works. More couple trips are on our Munnar page and the Kerala packages list.

Places you will see

Kerala Tourism's Munnar page puts Munnar at about 1,600 metres where three streams meet: the Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. It credits A. H. Sharp with the first tea planting in 1880 and places the Tea Museum on Tata Tea's Nallathanni Estate. The same page gives Mattupetty's height as about 1,700 metres and describes the panoramic view from Top Station.

Eravikulam National Park, home of the Nilgiri tahr, covers about 97 sq km and includes Anamudi, the highest peak in South India. Entry tickets are sold on the park's official booking site, which also notes that the park is 13 km from Munnar. The park usually closes for a few weeks each year during the tahr calving season, so check the booking site for current dates.

Chinnar and Eravikulam are both run by the Munnar Wildlife Division of the Kerala Forest Department, so you pass through forest checkposts on Day 1. Marayoor is known for sandalwood forests, and Lakkam Falls is a short walk from the road nearby. Entry to the falls depends on the forest department on the day; if it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

Best time to go

September to March gives clear views and cool nights. The monsoon, June to August, is misty and green, and some couples love it, but landslides can close roads. Neelakurinji blooms once in twelve years, according to Kerala Tourism, and draws big crowds when it does.

Frequently asked questions

Can you arrange a room with a view or a decorated room?

We ask for a valley-view room when we book. Room decoration, a cake or a candle-light dinner can be requested from the hotel and paid directly to them. Tell us what you would like and we pass it on; what the hotel can do is confirmed in your quote.

Can we change the plan or skip a day of sightseeing?

Yes. Many couples move Day 3 sightseeing to the morning and keep the whole afternoon free. Tell us before you confirm, or tell your driver on the day.

What if Eravikulam is closed or sold out?

Eravikulam tickets are sold by the park and can sell out on holidays. We book them when available. If the park is closed for calving, we add more tea-estate time.

Can we add Thekkady or Alleppey?

Yes. Our Munnar and Thekkady 5-day trip adds the spice country, and the Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey 6-day trip adds a houseboat.

Who is this package not for?

Families with children or older parents may prefer a lighter plan. For a shorter break, try our 2-day Munnar trip. If you prefer Tamil Nadu, see the Ooty honeymoon trip.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
