Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Ooty

    Morning drive up the ghat road. Afternoon at the Ooty Botanical Garden and Ooty Lake.

  2. Day 2: Coonoor day

    Sim's Park, Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose, with tea estates all around. Back to Ooty for the night.

  3. Day 3: Ooty to Wayanad, lakes

    Drive to Wayanad and spend the afternoon at a lake such as Pookode. Your driver may change the order on the day to beat crowds or weather.

  4. Day 4: Wayanad caves or waterfalls and resort time

    Morning at Edakkal Caves or a waterfall, depending on the season. Afternoon free for resort activities.

  5. Day 5: Wayanad to Mysore Palace, markets and gardens

    Drive to Mysore. Visit the palace, shop in the market area, and spend the evening at a garden. Night in Mysore.

  6. Day 6: Return to Coimbatore

    Breakfast and the drive home, roughly 200 km and around 4 to 5 hours with stops.

How far / how to reach

The Wayanad district gives Kalpetta as about 125 km from Ooty and 150 km from Mysore. The whole trip runs by road from Coimbatore in one vehicle.

Places you will see

The Ooty Botanical Garden covers 55 acres and dates from 1897, per the Nilgiris district page. In Coonoor, Dolphin's Nose is about 12 km from the bus stand and looks across to Catherine Falls.

Edakkal Caves are a rock shelter about 1,200 ft up, with carvings the Wayanad district dates back as far as 6000 BC. The climb is steep. Banasura Sagar, which the district calls India's largest earthen dam, is 21 km from Kalpetta and has boating.

Mysore Palace is open 10 am to 5.30 pm, ₹50 for adults, says the Mysuru district.

Best time to go

October to March is the easiest window on all three stretches of road. The Wayanad waterfalls are fullest after the June to September rains, but ghat roads are slower then. April and May are busy in Ooty.

  • We confirm the safety arrangements, emergency contact and check-in routine in writing with your quote.

Can a woman travelling alone join a group?

Not at present. This is a private package for a group you form yourselves.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Drop Edakkal if the climb is too much, add a shopping stop, or add a night in Mysore.

Which hotels do you use?

3-star or similar hotels, named in your quote. We tell you the hotel before you pay so you can check reviews yourself.

What if a stop is closed?

Edakkal and some waterfalls close in heavy rain. We switch to another lake or viewpoint the same day.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?

Mixed groups and couples should look at the Ooty, Wayanad and Mysore circuit. For a slower trip with older women in the group, see the senior-friendly 7-day tour.
