It suits families and groups who want forest, river and hill country rather than a city break. We run it from our office in Ganapathy, Coimbatore, with our own vehicle and driver for all five days.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Mysore, palace and zoo

    About 200 km to Mysore. If Mysore is all you want, see our Mysore day trip. The zoo closes at 5:30 PM and is shut on Tuesdays, per the official Mysuru Zoo site, so on a Tuesday start we swap it for Chamundi Hill. The palace is open until 5:30 PM.

  2. Day 2: Mysore to Coorg, Abbey Falls

    Drive to Madikeri, check in, and visit Abbey Falls in the afternoon. The drive is about 120 km, roughly three hours with stops.

  3. Day 3: Talakaveri and Dubare

    Talakaveri lies west of town in the Brahmagiri hills, and Dubare lies east toward Kushalnagar, so this is a full day in the car. We go to Talakaveri early and reach Dubare by early afternoon. Entry and activities at Dubare depend on the forest department on the day; if it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby, and your driver may change the order to suit the timings.

  4. Day 4: Coorg to Wayanad, Banasura Sagar Dam

    Cross into Kerala and drive to Wayanad, with the afternoon at Banasura Sagar Dam. It is about 130 km, around three to four hours with stops, longer on season weekends.

  5. Day 5: Edakkal Caves, return to Coimbatore

    Morning climb to Edakkal Caves, then the drive home. Edakkal timings change by season, so we check them for your date. The drive home is about 215 km, around four to five hours with stops. We drop you at your pickup point in Coimbatore.

How far / how to reach

You start and end in Coimbatore. Mysore is about 200 km away; the rest of the loop runs Mysore to Coorg, Coorg to Wayanad and Wayanad back to Coimbatore. One vehicle and driver stay with you throughout.

Places you will see

Talakaveri is a hill drive west of Madikeri, which is your base. Karnataka Tourism's Coorg guide puts it about 50 km from Abbey Falls. It is believed to be the source of the Kaveri. Bhagamandala's river confluence is on the same road, so you see both.

Abbey Falls is about 6 km from Madikeri. You watch from viewing points; the Abbey Falls page says entering the water is not allowed.

The Wayanad district site describes Banasura Sagar as India's largest earthen dam, built in 1979 and about 21 km from Kalpetta. Edakkal Caves are not true caves but a rock shelter formed by a boulder wedged between two others, with carvings that the district page on Edakkal dates back as far as 6000 BC. Reaching them means a steep walk and steps, so tell us about knee problems or very young children.

Best time to go

October to March is the easiest time for all three regions. Monsoon (June to September) fills Abbey Falls but brings heavy rain in Coorg and Wayanad, slower ghat roads and the chance of closures at the dam and caves.

Frequently asked questions

Can we drop Mysore and spend more time in Coorg or Wayanad?

Yes. Tell us before booking and we rework the nights. Coorg alone is covered in our four-day Coorg holiday or the shorter Coorg in 3 days.

Is Edakkal suitable for seniors?

Only for those comfortable with a steep path and steps. Others can wait at the base while the group climbs, or we replace it with a flat stop.

Which vehicle will we get?

It depends on group size and luggage for three hotel changes, and is named in your quote.

What if Dubare or the dam is closed?

Both can close for river levels or official orders. We suggest a nearby stop the same day.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should choose a different trip?
