Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Madurai, Meenakshi Temple

    Pickup in the morning and the drive to Madurai. Evening darshan at Meenakshi Amman Temple, open 5 AM to 12:30 PM and 4 PM to 9:30 PM per the Madurai district page. Night in Madurai.

  2. Day 2: Madurai to Rameswaram, Pamban and Dhanushkodi

    Drive to Rameswaram across Pamban Bridge, then out to Dhanushkodi at the island's tip. Ramanathaswamy Temple is not part of the Day 2 plan; we can fit evening darshan in on request. Night in Rameswaram.

  3. Day 3: Rameswaram to Thanjavur, the Big Temple and palace

    A long drive to Thanjavur, around 4.5 to 5.5 hours with stops, longer on season weekends. Afternoon at Brihadeeswarar Temple, the Big Temple, then Thanjavur Palace, about 1 km away. Night in Thanjavur.

  4. Day 4: Thanjavur to Trichy, Srirangam and Rockfort

    Drive to Trichy for Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple and the Rockfort Temple. Night in Trichy.

  5. Day 5: Samayapuram, Jambukeswarar Temple and return

    Morning at Samayapuram Mariamman Temple and Jambukeswarar Temple, then the drive back to Coimbatore. The drop time depends on traffic and how long you stay at each temple.

How far / how to reach

All by road from Coimbatore, a loop of four long drives. Trichy has an international airport and Madurai has an airport, so we can collect late joiners at either. Your written quote states exactly what is included, including any pickup outside Coimbatore.

Places you will see

Srirangam Temple stands on an island between the Cauvery and the Coleroon. On Srirangam temple size, the Tiruchirappalli district page says it covers 156 acres with 21 towers, and calls it the first and foremost of the 108 main Vishnu temples. That makes it the best known Divya Desam in Trichy.

The Rockfort, also called Ucchi Pillaiyar Kovil, is a 275 ft rock reached by 437 steps, and from its summit you can see Srirangam and both rivers, per the district's Rockfort page. From the Ucchi Pillayar temple to Srirangam is a short drive across the river. Jambukeswarar, 2 km east of Srirangam, has a lingam partly under water.

In Thanjavur, the palace was built partly by the Nayaks and partly by the Marathas. The district's places of interest page notes that the Saraswathi Mahal Library closes on Wednesdays. Brihadeeswarar Temple is part of the UNESCO-listed Great Living Chola Temples.

Best time to go

October to March is cooler for walking on temple stone. Summer afternoons are hot underfoot. Big festivals, such as Vaikunta Ekadasi at Srirangam, bring large crowds, and festival dates change every year.

It can be. Each night is in a new city. If that worries you, ask us to add a night in Trichy or Madurai.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
