It suits couples and families who want sea, sand and a quiet estuary at the southern tip of Kerala. We are a Coimbatore tour operator with an office in Ganapathy, and the trip runs in our own vehicles with our own drivers.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Kovalam, Lighthouse Beach

    A long road day, so we leave at dawn. You reach Kovalam by late afternoon and walk Lighthouse Beach at sunset. Suggested stay: a 3-star or similar hotel, named in your quote.

  2. Day 2: Trivandrum sightseeing

    A short drive into the city for the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the morning and the Napier Museum after. Back to Kovalam for the evening. Museum opening days vary, so your driver may change the order on the day.

  3. Day 3: Kovalam to Poovar, mangrove boat cruise

    You move south to Poovar and cross to the island resort by boat. In the afternoon a boat cruise takes you through the mangroves where the river meets the sea. Suggested stay: Poovar Island Resort or a similar 3-star hotel, confirmed in your quote.

  4. Day 4: Golden Sand Beach, return to Coimbatore

    Morning at Golden Sand Beach, the sand bar near the estuary mouth, which you reach by boat. Then the drive home to Coimbatore, around 9 hours with stops, and drop-off at your pickup point. An extra night on the way can be added on request.

How far is it from Coimbatore?

Kovalam is about 400 km from Coimbatore by road, around 8 to 9 hours with breaks, through Palakkad, Kochi and Alappuzha. Both Day 1 and Day 4 are long road days. All our trips start and end in Coimbatore. If you want a shorter last day, an extra night on the way can be added on request.

Places you will see

Kovalam. The Thiruvananthapuram district page on Kovalam Beach describes three crescent beaches side by side, with a rocky headland that makes a calm bay for bathing. Kovalam is about 16 km from the city railway station.

The Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The city's name means "city of Lord Ananta", after the temple's main deity, Vishnu resting on the serpent Adisheshan, as the district page on Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple explains. The temple has a strict dress code: men wear a mundu or dhoti without a shirt, and women wear a saree or a long skirt and blouse. Mundus can be hired near the gate. The temple sets its own entry rules, and we explain them in your quote.

Poovar. Resorts line the coast between Vizhinjam and Poovar, where the Neyyar river meets the sea, according to the district list of tourist places. Our Poovar stays page lists other options.

Best time to go

October to March is the beach season, with calm seas and dry days. The south-west monsoon, June to August, brings rough water and warning flags on Kovalam's beaches; the Poovar boat cruise may also stop on stormy days, and if it does, we swap in another stop nearby.

What is included in this beach trip?

Your AC vehicle and driver for 4 days, pickup and drop in Coimbatore, 3 nights' stay, the sightseeing on this page, and fuel, toll, parking and driver charges. Meals, entry tickets and boat fees are extra unless the resort includes them. Your quote lists everything.

Is it safe to swim at Kovalam?

Follow the lifeguards and the flags on the beach, and swim only in the zones marked safe. Stay out of the water when warning flags are up, which is common in the monsoon.

Can we add Varkala or Kanyakumari?

Who is this package not for?

How do we pay, and what if we cancel?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
