Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Yelagiri, Punganoor Lake and Nature Park

    Leave Coimbatore early and drive via Salem and Krishnagiri, then up the 14 hairpin bends to Yelagiri. After check-in, spend the evening at Punganoor Lake and the Yelagiri Nature Park next to it. Overnight in Yelagiri.

  2. Day 2: Swamimalai trek, Jalagamparai Falls and viewpoints

    Morning trek up Swamimalai hill. Entry depends on the forest department on the day; if the trail is closed, we swap in another stop nearby. After lunch, drive to Jalagamparai Falls, then stop at the ghat viewpoints for sunset. Second night in Yelagiri.

  3. Day 3: Vellore Golden Temple and Fort, return to Coimbatore

    Check out early and drive down to Vellore. Visit the Sripuram Golden Temple and Vellore Fort, then start the long drive home, about 370 km and around 6 to 7 hours with stops. We drop you at your pickup point in Coimbatore.

How far / how to reach

Yelagiri is about 320 km from Coimbatore by road, around 5 to 6 hours with stops. Vellore is about 90 km from Yelagiri, and Vellore back to Coimbatore is roughly 350 to 370 km. Day 3 is a long day, so we leave the hill by 7 am. See more on our Yelagiri page and Vellore page.

Places you will see

The Tirupathur district's Yelagiri page describes the 14-hairpin ghat road, Punganoor Lake with boating, and a herbal farm run by the forest department near the lake. On a family trip, the lake area is where children spend the most time.

Jalagamparai Falls is on the Attaru river. The district's Jalagamparai page notes that the falls dry up in summer and are best around November and December.

Most visitors come to Vellore for the Sripuram Golden Temple. The Vellore district's Golden Temple page says it stands on 100 acres, was built by the Sri Narayani Peedam trust and uses about 1,500 kg of gold foil on copper. It is about 10 km from Vellore town.

Most people know Vellore Fort for the 1806 mutiny, the first against the British in India. The district's fort page dates it to the 16th century and lists the Jalakandeswarar Temple, a mosque, a church and ASI and state museums inside its granite walls.

Best time to go

October to February is the best window: cool on the hill and water at Jalagamparai. Summer is warm on the plains but still pleasant on Yelagiri in the evenings. Avoid the Golden Temple on major festival days unless you are ready for long queues.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Vellore Fort timings?

The fort grounds are open through the day, but the museums inside keep their own hours and weekly holidays, which we check for your date. We plan the fort for late morning on Day 3.

Can we do Yelagiri as a one day trip?

Not from Coimbatore; it is over 300 km each way. A Yelagiri one day trip works from Bengaluru, Chennai or Vellore. From Coimbatore, a Yelagiri itinerary of two nights is the sensible minimum.

Can you arrange a day trip if we live in Vellore?

Our vehicles start from Coimbatore, so this package is not set up for a one day trip from Vellore. Send your dates anyway and we will tell you what we can arrange.

Can we add Tiruvannamalai or Kanchipuram?

Who is this package not for?

People who want a big hill station with shopping and cold weather. Yelagiri is small and mild. For that, the Kodaikanal weekend is closer and cooler. For a quieter tea-hill stay, try Meghamalai in 3 days. For heritage mansions and temples, see Chettinad in 2 days.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
