Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Coimbatore to Tiruvannamalai, Arunachaleswarar Temple and Girivalam route
Leave Coimbatore early and drive via Salem. After check-in, visit the Arunachaleswarar Temple. In the evening, walk the Girivalam path around the hill, or ride part of it in the vehicle if your group includes elders. Overnight in Tiruvannamalai.
Day 2: Tiruvannamalai to Kanchipuram, Ekambareswarar and Kamakshi temples
Drive to Kanchipuram in the morning. Visit the Ekambareswarar Temple before it closes at 12.30 pm, rest through the afternoon, then visit the Kamakshi Amman Temple in the evening. Overnight in Kanchipuram.
Day 3: Kailasanathar Temple, silk centre and return
Start at the Kailasanathar Temple when it opens at 6.30 am, visit a silk weaving centre, and begin the long drive back to Coimbatore by late morning.
How far / how to reach
Tiruvannamalai is about 330 km from Coimbatore via Salem, around 5 to 6 hours. Kanchipuram is about 160 km further. The return from Kanchipuram is about 480 km, so Day 3 is a long day and you reach home late. See our Tiruvannamalai page and Kanchipuram page for more.
Places you will see
The Tiruvannamalai district's temple page places the Annamalaiyar (Arunachaleswarar) Temple at the base of the Annamalai hills and gives its tallest gopuram as 216.5 ft. The district's full moon Girivalam page gives the circuit road around the hill as about 14 km.
The Kancheepuram district's places of interest page covers all the Kanchipuram stops. The Kanchipuram Ekambareswarar Temple, locally Kanchi Ekambaranathar, is the earth temple among the five Pancha Bhootha Sthalams, with a 57-metre Raja Gopuram built by Krishnadevaraya and a sacred mango tree. The Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple, built in the 7th century by the Pallava king Rajasimha, is the town's oldest structure and is maintained by the ASI. The Kamakshi Amman Temple is the town's main Shakti shrine.
If you want Vishnu temples too, the same page covers two that fit on Day 3:
- Athi Varadar (Varadaraja Perumal) Temple: a 23-acre campus with about 400 pillared halls.
- Vaikunda Perumal Temple: built by the Pallava king Nandivarman in the 8th century, with Vishnu sitting, reclining and standing on three tiers.
Each is a Divya Desam in Kanchipuram and one of the 108, so pilgrims who are visiting all 108 can tick off two.
Best time to go
November to February is the most comfortable. Full moon nights and the Karthigai Deepam festival bring huge crowds to Tiruvannamalai, and hotels fill early. Tell us your dates and we will flag any clash.
Vehicle for your group size
The vehicle is part of the package price. We match it to your group, and you can ask for a different one.

Frequently asked questions
Can you plan the trip around the full moon Girivalam?
Yes. Tell us the full moon date and we shift Day 1 to match. Expect heavy traffic and book early. The full 14 km walk takes most people several hours.
What are the Ekambareswarar temple Kanchipuram timings?
The district lists 6 am to 12.30 pm and 4 pm to 8.30 pm. That is why Day 2 has a rest break in the afternoon.
What are the Kanchi Kailasanathar temple timings?
The district lists the Kailasanathar Temple timings as 6.30 am to 12.30 pm and 4 pm to 7.30 pm. We go at opening time on Day 3.
Can we add the Vishnu temples in Kanchipuram?
Yes, if you start early on Day 3 or add a night. The district lists the Varadaraja Perumal Temple timings as 6 am to 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Those timings leave a long midday gap, so a Day 3 morning visit works best. The Perumal temples that morning are Varadaraja Perumal, then Vaikunda Perumal.
Who is this package not for?
Anyone who cannot sit through a 480 km return day. Add a night in Vellore and use our Yelagiri and Vellore trip as a break, or see the longer South India temples tour. For a coastal pilgrimage instead, see Velankanni and Nagore in 3 days. For a shorter temple outing closer to home, try the Palani temple day trip.
What are the payment and cancellation terms?
A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
