Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Pollachi, Masani Amman Temple

    Pickup in the morning and south to Pollachi. Darshan at Masani Amman Temple in Anaimalai, then an afternoon on the edge of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. Night in Pollachi. Our plan lists "Anamalai Tiger Reserve" on Day 1 and the Topslip safari on Day 2; both are in the same reserve, so Day 1 is a lighter forest-edge drive.

  2. Day 2: Topslip jungle safari, Karian Shola, on to Valparai

    An early drive to Topslip for the forest department's safari, then a walk in Karian Shola, the evergreen shola forest near Topslip. Trail entry and guide rules are set by the forest department on the day. After lunch, drive to Valparai through Aliyar and the hairpin bends. Night in Valparai.

  3. Day 3: Sholayar Dam, tea gardens and return

    Upper Sholayar Dam, about 15 km from Valparai, and the tea estates, then down to Pollachi and Coimbatore, usually reaching your drop point by evening.

How far / how to reach

Coimbatore to Valparai is about 102 km by road, per the district. Pollachi to Topslip is a short forest-road drive, about 35 km. Day 2 is the long day: Topslip back toward Pollachi, then up to Valparai, around 2.5 to 3.5 hours with stops.

Places you will see

The Anamalai Tiger Reserve, also called the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, runs jeep safaris and nature trails from Topslip and lists Topslip forest lodges on its site. The Coimbatore district page on Valparai puts Valparai above 3,500 feet, 64 km from Pollachi, and notes elephants, leopards, Nilgiri tahr, lion-tailed macaques and great hornbills in the range. Sightings depend on luck and season; we never promise them.

Best time to go

The dry months after the monsoon are best for the forest. Heavy rain can close trails and safaris in the monsoon, and entry depends on the forest department on the day. Valparai stays cool in summer when Pollachi is hot.

Topslip safari timings and seats

Safari slots at Topslip are set by the forest department and seats sell out on weekends. Book the safari through the ATR booking page or ask us to try when you confirm; we book them when available. If the safari is full or cancelled, Day 2 becomes a Karian Shola walk and an earlier run up to Valparai. Slots and fees change, so we check them for your date and tell you in your quote.

Frequently asked questions

What are the darshan timings at Masani Amman Temple?

The temple is in Anaimalai near Pollachi. We plan the visit for Day 1 and check the day's darshan times before we leave, since timings change on festival days.

What if the safari sells out?

Safari seats are run by the forest department and sell out; we book them when available. If they are gone, you still get Karian Shola and a longer afternoon in Valparai.

Can we stay at Topslip?

ATR runs forest lodges at Topslip. If you want to stay inside, tell us early and we can quote the trip around a lodge booking you hold.

Is this suitable for small children or older parents?

The safari is bumpy and Day 2 is long. For a gentler trip, the Valparai 2 days tour has no safari. For waterfalls and forest without a safari, see Athirapally and Valparai in 4 days.

Can we do just Pollachi and Topslip?

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
