Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Pollachi, Aliyar Dam, Monkey Falls and the Anaimalai temple

    Leave Coimbatore in the morning for Pollachi, about 40 km away. Carry on to Aliyar Dam and the park below it, then a few kilometres up the Valparai road to Monkey Falls. On the way back, stop at the Anaimalai temple for evening darshan. Overnight in Pollachi.

  2. Day 2: Topslip and Anamalai Tiger Reserve, return to Coimbatore

    Start early for Topslip. Forest activities here, such as the safari, depend on permits and seats on the day. After the forest visit, drive back to Coimbatore.

How far / how to reach

Pollachi is about 40 km from Coimbatore, roughly an hour. Aliyar is a further 24 km. The Pollachi to Topslip distance is about 35 km by road through Sethumadai, around an hour. More trips around here are on our Pollachi page and the Topslip page.

Places you will see

Aliyar Dam sits under the Anamalai hills, 24 km from Pollachi. The Coimbatore district page on Aliyar Dam says it was built across the Aliyar river between 1959 and 1969, stands 81 metres high and has a park at its base with boating.

Monkey Falls, also called Kavi Aruvi, is near Aliyar on the Pollachi to Valparai road. The district's Monkey Falls listing gives timings of 9 am to 5 pm and a fee of ₹50 per person. Water levels change with the season.

The Masani Amman temple at Anaimalai is one of the busiest temples near Pollachi. Tuesdays, Fridays and new moon days are usually crowded.

Topslip is the tourist zone of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. The Tiruppur district page on the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, the older name for the same forest, lists elephant, gaur, tiger, panther, sloth bear and deer among the animals here.

Best time to go

Topslip is open for most of the year, but the forest department can close it during fire season or heavy rain, so entry depends on the forest department on the day. If it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby. Monkey Falls has the most water after the monsoon. Summer afternoons in Pollachi are hot, so we keep outdoor stops for the morning.

Frequently asked questions

What if the Topslip safari is full?

Safari seats are run by the forest department and sell out on weekends and holidays. We book them when available. If seats are gone, we tell you before the day and swap in another stop nearby, such as more time at Aliyar or Monkey Falls.

What are the darshan timings at the Masani Amman temple?

Timings change on festival and new moon days, so we check with the temple the day before you travel. Day 1 is planned so you reach Anaimalai in the evening, which suits most days.

Can we add Valparai?

Yes, with one more day. The climb has about 40 hairpin bends. Our Valparai and Pollachi 3-day trip already covers it.

Can we do this in one day?

Day 1 works as a day trip. Our Pollachi, Aliyar and Monkey Falls day tour covers it without Topslip.

Who is this package not for?

People looking for a hill station with cool weather. Pollachi is warm plains country. For hills, the Valparai day trip is closer to what you want. For waterfalls and forest roads across the Kerala border, try our Athirapally and Valparai waterfall trip.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
