Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Gokarna, Om Beach and Kudle Beach

    This is a very long drive, about 630 km down the coast. We leave around 4 am so you can reach Om Beach for the last light and see Kudle Beach if time allows. In winter, when sunset is earlier, the beach visit may slip to Day 2 morning. Night in Gokarna.

  2. Day 2: Mahabaleshwar temple and the beach trek

    Morning darshan at the Mahabaleshwar temple, which holds the Atmalinga. Then the beach trek. Karnataka Tourism's Gokarna page gives the order as Kudle to Om to Half Moon to Paradise Beach. The path from Om Beach to Half Moon Beach runs over rocky headland, so wear proper shoes. Boats can bring you back if your legs give up. Night in Gokarna. Boat availability and fares change with the sea and the season.

  3. Day 3: Gokarna to Murudeshwar

    Murudeshwar is about 78 km south, around 2 hours. You see the Shiva statue, roughly 123 feet tall, and the 20-storey Raja Gopura, which has a lift to the top for a small fee. Karnataka Tourism's Murudeshwara page lists the temple open 6 am to 8:30 pm with a break between 1 pm and 3 pm. Night in Murudeshwar.

  4. Day 4: Honnavar backwater boat ride, return to Coimbatore

    A morning boat ride on the Honnavar backwaters, then the long road back to Coimbatore and drop-off at your pickup point, about 560 km. This is a long day of roughly 12 hours on the road, so expect to reach Coimbatore late at night. An extra night on the way can be added on request. Boat timings and fares depend on the operator and the season, so we confirm them for your date.

How far and how to reach

Gokarna is about 630 km from Coimbatore, so Day 1 and Day 4 are full travel days. If you would rather not spend that much time in the car, take the train to the Konkan coast and ask us for a local vehicle quote. Your written quote states exactly what is included, including any extra kilometres.

Places you will see

Om Beach gets its name from its shape, two curved bays joined like the Om symbol, which you see best from the cliffs above, as Karnataka Tourism's Om Beach page also notes. Kudle is the beach closest to town. Karnataka Tourism notes that Paradise Beach is reached only by the trek or by boat, which keeps it quiet. At Murudeshwar the statue and gopura stand on Kanduka Hill above the sea.

Best time to go

October to February. Karnataka Tourism describes clear skies and a sea calm enough for swimming in these months. In the monsoon (June to September) the sea is rough, swimming is unsafe, and boat trips such as Netrani Island from Murudeshwar stop completely.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Om Beach?

Om Beach is just south of Gokarna town in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. You reach it by road and then a short walk down. It sits between Kudle Beach and Half Moon Beach on the coastal trek.

Can we stay overnight at Half Moon Beach?

We do not book huts at Half Moon Beach, and the trail there has no lights. If you arrange a hut yourself, we can drop you at Om Beach in the afternoon and pick you up there the next morning. Rules for staying on that beach can change, so ask us before you plan it.

Does this trip include Karwar?

Not in the current plan. Karwar is about 59 km north of Gokarna. If you want to add Karwar, ask for an extra half day in your quote. Rabindranath Tagore Beach is among the places to visit in Karwar.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Many people swap Honnavar for Mirjan Fort, or add a night to break the drive home. Tell us before you confirm.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should pick a different package?
