Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Chikmagalur, Mullayanagiri

    Early start for the long drive north, about 385 km via Mysore and Hassan, so plan on a full day with stops. If we arrive with daylight left, we go up Mullayanagiri; otherwise it moves to Day 2 morning.

  2. Day 2: Baba Budangiri, Jhari Falls, coffee estate walk

    Baba Budangiri ridge in the morning, Jhari Falls by local jeep, and an afternoon walk on a coffee estate. The estate is named in your quote, and any walk fee is paid there.

  3. Day 3: Chikmagalur to Coorg, Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat

    Drive south to Madikeri, around 3 to 4 hours with stops. Abbey Falls in the afternoon and Raja's Seat at sunset. If you have energy left, the Omkareshwara Temple is a few minutes away.

  4. Day 4: Dubare, Golden Temple, return to Coimbatore

    Morning at Dubare Elephant Camp, then the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe, and the drive home through Mysore.

How far / how to reach

By road the whole way: Coimbatore to Chikmagalur via Mysore and Hassan, Chikmagalur to Madikeri, and Madikeri to Coimbatore through Kushalnagar and Mysore. Expect around 850 km in all across the four days.

Places you will see

Mullayanagiri is Karnataka's highest peak at 1,930 m, per Karnataka Tourism's Mullayanagiri page; the last stretch is on steps. Baba Budangiri is linked to the first coffee planted in India, and Jhari Falls, also called Buttermilk Falls, sits among coffee estates.

Abbey Falls, in Kodagu district, is about 6 km from Madikeri; you watch from viewing points (Abbey Falls page). Raja's Seat is about 7 km from the falls.

The Coorg elephant camp at Dubare, on the Kaveri, is where visitors watch the elephants being bathed and fed. Dubare elephant camp activities also include rafting in season, per the Kodagu district tourism page. Entry and activities depend on the forest department on the day; if the camp is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

On the way home you stop at the Golden Temple, which is the Namdroling Monastery at Bylakuppe, about 5 km from Kushalnagar and open 9 AM to 6 PM. Nisargadhama, a river island park reached by a hanging bridge, is nearby.

Best time to go

October to March is dry and clear in both regions. Monsoon brings full waterfalls but slippery steps, leeches on estate paths and cloud on Mullayanagiri.

What are the Dubare elephant camp timings?

The camp sets its own hours, and they can change with the season and river level. We plan Day 4 around the times on your date.

What are the Omkareshwara Temple timings?

Karnataka Tourism lists the Omkareshwara Temple as open 6:30 AM to 12 PM and 5 PM to 8 PM, so it fits after Raja's Seat on Day 3.

Is there any boating on this trip?

For Coorg boating on this trip, Nisargadhama has boat rides, and we can stop there on Day 4 if you skip part of the Golden Temple visit. The fee is paid there.

Is 4 days too rushed for Chikmagalur and Coorg?

It has two long drive days. If you would rather stay put, our Chikmagalur 3-day trip keeps both nights in one place.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
