Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Ooty

    A slow drive up the ghat road with tea and toilet breaks, then rest.

  2. Day 2: Ooty and Coonoor, easy pace

    Morning at the Ooty Botanical Garden, then the Doddabetta viewpoint. Tell us if the walk from the car park is too much and we skip it. Afternoon drive to Sim's Park in Coonoor if everyone feels up to it.

  3. Day 3: Ooty to Mysore

    Drive down to Mysore and check in. The evening is free.

  4. Day 4: Mysore Palace, gardens and accessible sights

    Mysore Palace in the morning, before the crowds and heat. Lunch and rest. Evening at a garden or the palace lights if it is a Sunday or holiday.

  5. Day 5: Mysore to Coorg, viewpoints

    Drive to Coorg and check in. Evening at Raja's Seat for the sunset.

  6. Day 6: Coorg monastery and a relaxed plantation visit

    Visit the Namdroling monastery, then a short, flat walk through a coffee plantation. Afternoon at the hotel.

  7. Day 7: Return to Coimbatore

    Drive home via Mysore with breaks as needed. It is a full day on the road.

Places you will see

The Ooty Botanical Garden spreads over 55 acres of lawns and old trees, laid out in 1897, says the Nilgiris district page. Doddabetta, at 2,623 m, is the highest peak in Tamil Nadu and about 10 km from Ooty bus stand, per the district's Doddabetta page.

Mysore Palace is open 10 am to 5.30 pm daily, with a ₹50 adult ticket, according to the Mysuru district. It is lit on Sundays, public holidays and during Dasara.

Raja's Seat is about 1 km from the Madikeri bus stand, says the Kodagu district page. Karnataka Tourism describes the Namdroling monastery, also called the Golden Temple, with its large golden Buddha statues.

Best time to go

October to March is mild in all three places; Karnataka Tourism lists the same months for Coorg. Ooty nights get cold from December to February, so pack warm layers. The Nilgiris district names April, May and September as the best months for the Botanical Garden, though April and May are also the busiest. Avoid the July and August rains on the ghat roads.

How we keep the pace gentle

  • Two-night stays mean only three hotel changes in the week.
  • We skip steep stops such as Lamb's Rock and the Abbey Falls steps unless you ask for them.
  • The driver drops you at the gate and waits close by.
  • We ask hotels for ground-floor rooms or lift access, and your quote names the hotels.
  • If anyone uses a wheelchair, tell us; we cannot promise access at every site.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a train from Ooty to Coorg?

No, there is no Coorg to Ooty train. The Nilgiri toy train runs between Mettupalayam and Ooty, and Coorg has no railway station at all, says the Kodagu district. Travelling by car is the only door-to-door way.

Why not take a public bus between Coorg and Ooty?

You can, but the Coorg to Ooty bus means changes, luggage handling and long waits, which is hard on older travellers. On this trip the same driver and vehicle stay with you all week. The route also breaks the trip at Mysore, so you never drive straight from Coorg to Ooty.

Can we change the order or add a rest day?

Yes. We can add a night anywhere, or drop a stop that looks tiring.

What if someone feels unwell?

The driver can take you to the nearest hospital or clinic and call your family. Carry your medicines and prescriptions.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?

Active families who want to see more each day should look at the Ooty, Wayanad and Mysore circuit or the Mysore and Ooty holiday. For a shorter Nilgiris break, try Bandipur and Ooty in 3 days. Women travelling together may prefer our women-only South India trip, and for Coorg alone there is a 3-day Coorg break.
