Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Gokarna

    A very long drive day up the coast, about 675 km and well over 12 hours with stops. Check in and rest.

  2. Day 2: Gokarna temple and beach trail

    Morning darshan at the Mahabaleshwar Temple, then the beach trail. We drop you at the start and collect you at the end.

  3. Day 3: Gokarna to Dandeli, with Yana or Mirjan on the way

    Drive inland to Dandeli. If you choose the optional route, stop at Yana or Mirjan Fort on the way.

  4. Day 4: Rafting and approved adventure activities

    Rafting on the Kali river in the morning, then kayaking or other activities that the licensed operators run that season.

  5. Day 5: Safari or Syntheri Rocks, then home

    A morning safari in the Dandeli forest or a visit to Syntheri Rocks, then the drive back to Coimbatore and drop-off at your pickup point. It is about 705 km, a very long day of around 13 hours on the road. An extra night on the way can be added on request.

Places you will see

The Mahabaleshwar Temple houses the Shiva Atmalinga. Karnataka Tourism's Gokarna guide lists it open 6 am to 12.30 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm, with a strict dress code: dhoti for men, saree or salwar for women, no jeans or shorts. Non-Hindus cannot enter the inner sanctum. Timings can change, so we confirm them for your date.

The same guide names five main beaches: Gokarna Main, Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise. Paradise Beach is the farthest, reached on foot past Half Moon or by boat from Om. The five-beach trek links them over cliffs and forest paths and takes half a day to a full day.

Yana has two huge black limestone rocks, Bhairaveshwara and Mohini Shikhara, reached by a 0.5 km forest walk, says the Uttara Kannada district page on Yana. Mirjan Fort, built of red laterite, is about 12 km from Kumta, per the district's Mirjan page.

Rafting on the Kali river covers 9 to 12 km of Class II to III rapids, depending on water released from Supa Dam, says Karnataka Tourism's Dandeli rafting page. Safaris run in the Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve. Entry to Syntheri Rocks depends on the forest department on the day; if it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

Best time to go

October to March for Gokarna, per Karnataka Tourism. Rafting runs between October and June, depending on dam flow and forest permission. That makes October to March the best overlap. In the monsoon, beach treks are slippery and the sea is unsafe for swimming.

Treks and other activities

Gokarna trekking mostly means the cliff path from Kudle to Paradise Beach, and Yana is a gentler walk. Karnataka Tourism says scuba diving in Gokarna runs from Om Beach, and further out at Netrani Island, a navy area where you dive but cannot land. We can drive you to a dive operator; diving is booked and paid directly, and diving seasons depend on sea conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Is rafting safe and is it guaranteed?

Operators must provide safety gear and trained river guides, says Karnataka Tourism. Slots depend on dam water and forest clearance, so we book once dates are fixed and tell you if the river is closed.

Do you arrange camping?

We do not run Gokarna camping trips. Some beach shacks and private camps offer tents; we can drop you there and price it into the quote if you ask.

Can I travel alone on this trip?

Yes. A solo trip to Gokarna in a private car costs more per person than a group trip, but you keep your own pace.

Can we spend New Year in Gokarna?

We can do the drive around New Year, but hotels fill early and rates rise. Book at least a month ahead. We do not organise a Gokarna New Year party.

Is this a trekking trip?

It includes the beach trek, but it is a car tour with hotels, not a hostel trek group.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this package not for?
