Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Coimbatore to Guruvayur, Guruvayur and Mammiyoor temples
We leave Coimbatore in the morning and drive via Palakkad and Thrissur. After hotel check-in in Guruvayur, you go for darshan at the Sree Krishna Temple and at the nearby Mammiyoor temple. Queues are long on weekends and festival days, so we plan darshan around the quieter hours. Darshan timings change with the day and festival calendar, so we check them for your date.
Day 2: Punnathur Kotta, a Thrissur temple, then Athirapally
In the morning, visit Punnathur Kotta, where the Guruvayur temple's elephants live. Then drive to Thrissur for a temple visit, usually the Vadakkunnathan Temple. Your driver may change the order on the day to beat crowds. In the afternoon, you continue to Athirapally and check in for the night near the falls.
Day 3: Athirapally and Vazhachal Falls, return to Coimbatore
See Athirapally Falls in the morning light, then drive less than 5 km up the road to Vazhachal Falls. After lunch, we head back to Coimbatore.
How far is Guruvayur from Coimbatore?
Guruvayur is about 140 km from Coimbatore via Palakkad and Thrissur, around 3.5 to 4 hours with stops. Athirapally to Coimbatore is a similar drive via Chalakudy and Thrissur. No day has more than four or five hours on the road, which suits older travellers.
Places you will see
Guruvayur is about an hour from Thrissur. Kerala Tourism says its Sree Krishna Temple is believed to be 5,000 years old, and devotees consider Ekadasi days especially auspicious. Kerala Tourism's Guruvayur and Punnathur Kotta page covers both places.
Punnathur Kotta is an old palace taken over by the Guruvayur temple authorities in 1975 to house elephants offered to the temple. Kerala Tourism calls it one of India's largest elephant sanctuaries, and it also runs a school for mahouts. Visiting hours change, so we check them for your date.
The Athirappilly and Vazhachal waterfalls are both on the Chalakudy River in the Sholayar forest range, about 63 km from Thrissur. Athirapally drops about 80 feet and is Kerala's best-known waterfall. Vazhachal is different: the water runs over a wide bed of rock, and those rocks are very slippery. The forest here has four hornbill species, so keep an eye on the trees. The Athirappilly destination site has local visitor details.
Best time to go
The waterfalls are fullest from June to October, after the monsoon. Viewpoints near the water can close in very heavy rain. From November to February the flow is lower but the weather is easier for grandparents, and Guruvayur is busier on festival days and Ekadasi.
Vehicle for your group size
The vehicle is part of the package price. We match it to your group, and you can ask for a different one.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a dress code at Guruvayur temple?
Yes. The temple has a traditional dress code, and entry rules for visitors are set by Guruvayur Devaswom. Please check the current rules before you travel and pack accordingly.
Can we change the plan?
Yes. You can drop the Thrissur stop, add a second night in Guruvayur for an early darshan, or spend more time at the falls. Tell us before we confirm the quote.
Which vehicle will we get?
We pick by group size: sedans, Ertiga, Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross for small families, Tempo Travellers and Force Urbania for larger ones, and coach vans or buses for temple groups. Your quote names the vehicle.
Is the waterfall walk hard for older people?
The main viewpoint at Athirapally is a walk from the parking area, and the path to the bottom of the falls is steeper. Grandparents can stay at the top viewpoint.
How do payment and cancellation work?
A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
Who should pick a different package?
Pilgrims who want more temples and no waterfall should look at our 4-day Kerala temples circuit or, in season, the Sabarimala pilgrimage. Travellers who mainly want waterfalls in the rains will like the Athirapally and Valparai waterfalls tour. For a shorter break, take Athirapally and Thrissur in 2 days or Guruvayur and Thrissur in 2 days.
