Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Palani temple, then up to Kodaikanal

    Morning drive to Palani. You go up the hill to the Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple by winch or ropeway, or on foot if you prefer. In the evening we climb the ghat road to Kodaikanal and check in at a 3-star or similar hotel, named in your quote.

  2. Day 2: Kodai Lake, Bryant Park, Coaker's Walk

    An easy day in town. These three sit close together, so you can park once and walk. Hire a bicycle or a boat at the lake if you like.

  3. Day 3: Mannavanur and Berijam Lake

    A full day on the upper plateau. Mannavanur has open grassland and a lake, open 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM according to the Forest Department's Mannavanur Lake page. Berijam Lake is inside a forest area and needs a forest department ticket. Each traveller queues at the counter for their own ticket.

  4. Day 4: Silver Cascade, Dindigul biryani stop, return

    On the way down you stop at Silver Cascade by the ghat road. Lunch is a biryani stop in Dindigul, then the drive home to Coimbatore.

How far and how to reach

Coimbatore to Palani is about 110 km by road, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. From Palani the ghat road climbs to Kodaikanal in about 2.5 hours. Day 4 comes down by the Batlagundu side, through Dindigul and back to Coimbatore.

Places you will see

The Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple sits on a hill in Palani town. The Dindigul district page on the Palani temple covers the temple and its access. A winch and a ropeway save older family members the climb. Winch and ropeway timings and closure days change, so we check them for your date.

Most visitors pair Palani with Kodaikanal, which is why this trip goes straight up the hill afterwards.

Kodaikanal sits at about 7,200 feet in the Palani Hills, according to the Dindigul district Kodaikanal page. Coaker's Walk is a path along the south slope with views of the plains. Bryant Park is next to the lake.

Berijam is a forest lake. Entry depends on the forest department on the day; if it is closed, we swap in another stop nearby.

Best time to go

March to June is the main summer season in Kodaikanal and the busiest. October to February is cooler and quieter; carry warm clothes. Palani is crowded during Thai Poosam and Panguni Uthiram, so expect long queues at those festivals.

₹11,200 to ₹29,000 per person. Your figure depends on dates, the hotel and group size; the vehicle cost is shared, so a larger group pays less each. Send your dates, group size and pickup point on WhatsApp or call +91 93426 62373. A sedan or Ertiga takes 2 to 4 people, an Innova or Crysta 5 to 7, and a Tempo Traveller 10 or more. The Palani ghat road has many bends, so tell us if anyone gets car sick and we will plan more stops.

Frequently asked questions

Can we add the Kurinji Andavar Temple?

Yes. The Kurinji Andavar temple is a Murugan temple just outside Kodaikanal town, so it fits on Day 2 without much extra driving. Ask for it when you request the quote.

What if Berijam permits run out?

The forest department issues the tickets, one per person at the counter, and sets the daily limit. If none are left, we spend Day 3 at Mannavanur and other viewpoints on the same road instead.

Is the winch or ropeway better for elderly parents?

Both save the climb. The ropeway is quicker but closes in bad weather. The winch runs more hours: the district's Palani temple page lists it from 6 a.m. and the rope car from 7 a.m. We drop you at the station you choose.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Some families stay a second night in Palani for an early darshan. Others skip Dindigul. Tell us before we send the quote.

What are your payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who is this not for?

If you only want darshan, our Palani one-day tour is enough. If you only want the hills, the 2-day Kodaikanal weekend costs less.
