Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Munnar

    We pick you up and drive about 160 km to Munnar by Pollachi, Udumalpet and Chinnar. Check in and rest.

  2. Day 2: Munnar sightseeing

    A full day in Munnar. Most guests choose Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and the tea museum; your driver plans the order around opening times and queues.

  3. Day 3: Munnar to Thekkady, Periyar boat ride

    After breakfast you drive to Thekkady. In the afternoon you take the Periyar lake boat ride if seats are available. The evening is free in Kumily for spice shopping.

  4. Day 4: Thekkady to Alleppey, houseboat cruise on Vembanad Lake

    You drive down from the hills to Alleppey, a drive of around 3 to 4 hours. Then you board a deluxe houseboat and cruise the backwaters of Vembanad Lake. If you choose a houseboat stay, you sleep on board. If you choose the hotel, the cruise ends at the jetty and you check in on land.

  5. Day 5: Alleppey Beach, Marari Beach, back to Coimbatore

    A slow morning at Alleppey Beach and Marari Beach, then the drive back to Coimbatore, a drive of around 5 to 6 hours with stops. We drop you at your pickup point in Coimbatore.

How far / how to reach

Day 1 is about 160 km from Coimbatore to Munnar. Days 3 and 4 are moderate drives through the hills. Day 5 is the longest drive, from the coast back to Coimbatore through Thrissur and Palakkad.

Munnar. Kerala Tourism's Eravikulam page covers the park's Nilgiri tahr zone at Rajamalai and Anamudi, the highest peak in South India.

Vembanad Lake and Alleppey. Kerala Tourism's guide to Alappuzha calls Vembanad the largest lake in Kerala and lists Marari Beach, named after the fishing village of Mararikulam, among the town's main sights.

Best time to go

October to March is the most popular time for this loop: cool in the hills, calm on the backwaters. Eravikulam closes from February to March for the Nilgiri tahr calving season, per Kerala Tourism. Houseboats run through the monsoon, from June to September, though heavy rain can change the cruise plan.

Couples travel in a sedan, families of six or seven in an Innova or Innova Crysta, and larger groups in a Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania.

Frequently asked questions

Do we sleep on the houseboat?

You choose. The Alleppey night can be on a houseboat or in a hotel such as Abad. Couples often pick the houseboat, while families with small children or older parents sometimes prefer a hotel. Tell us when you ask for a quote.

What if the Periyar boat ride is sold out?

The forest department runs the boat and seats go fast in season. If there are none, you get a spice plantation walk or a nature walk in Kumily instead, and we tell you in advance if your dates look busy.

Can we end the trip in Cochin instead of Coimbatore?

No. All our trips start and end in Coimbatore, and we drop you at your pickup point. You will find other Kerala trips on our Kerala tour packages page.

Which vehicle will we get?

It depends on your group size. A sedan such as a Dzire, an Innova or Innova Crysta, a Tempo Traveller or a Force Urbania. The quote names the vehicle, and the same driver stays with you for all five days.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should pick a different package?
