Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Mangalore, Panambur Beach and Mangaladevi

    The drive to Mangalore is about 400 km. In the late afternoon you reach Panambur Beach, which Karnataka Tourism places 9 km from the city, and after sunset the Mangaladevi temple, the goddess the city is named after. Night in Mangalore. Allow around 8 to 9 hours with stops, longer on weekends.

  2. Day 2: Udupi Krishna Matha, Malpe and St Mary's Island

    About 95 km to Udupi, around an hour and a half to two hours. At the Krishna Matha, devotees see the deity through a small window, the Kanakana Kindi, as described on Karnataka Tourism's Udupi page. Afternoon at Malpe and a boat to St Mary's Island, known for its hexagonal basalt columns. Night in Udupi.

  3. Day 3: Murudeshwar and Kollur Mookambika

    A full temple day. Murudeshwar has the Shiva statue of about 123 feet and the 20-storey Raja Gopura with a lift; the Murudeshwara page lists the temple open 6 am to 8:30 pm with a break from 1 pm to 3 pm. Then Kollur, at the foot of Kodachadri Hill, for the Mookambika temple. Back to Udupi for the night. Expect around 200 km of driving today. Darshan timings at Kollur change with the day and season, so we check them for your date and plan around them.

  4. Day 4: Kapu lighthouse beach, return to Coimbatore

    Kapu is about 15 km from Udupi. Karnataka Tourism says the Kapu lighthouse is over 120 years old and open for visits. Then the drive home to Coimbatore, about 530 km. This is a long day of around 10 to 11 hours with stops; an extra night on the way can be added on request. We drop you at your pickup point in Coimbatore.

How far and how to reach

Everything runs by road in one vehicle. Day 1 and Day 4 are the long drives. Mangalore to Udupi is short, and Day 3 is the long loop north.

Best time to go

October to February. Karnataka Tourism names these months for Mangaluru and Murudeshwar. Karnataka Tourism says St Mary's Island ferries typically run October to May and stop in the monsoon, so a monsoon booking drops that stop.

Mangalore on this trip

Your Mangalore time is one afternoon and evening, so we keep it to the coast and one temple: Panambur for the sunset and Mangaladevi for the city's own goddess. Tannirbhavi Beach, about 9 km from Panambur, is quieter. Sultan Battery, the old fort by the ferry point, is on the way to it. Either can replace Mangaladevi if you prefer. For more time in Mangalore, you need a second night there.

What to see in Mangalore if we only have one evening?

The best things to do in Mangalore in one evening are Panambur Beach for sunset and the Mangaladevi temple after dark. Both are within easy reach of the city hotels, so you are not stuck in traffic on your first night.

Is this trip good for couples?

Yes, if you like beaches more than nightlife. Tannirbhavi is the quieter beach, and Malpe and Kapu on the next days are good at sunset.

What if the St Mary's Island boats are not running?

Boats stop in the monsoon and on rough-sea days. We tell you at booking if your dates fall in the closed season, and on the day you get more time at Malpe instead.

Can we change the plan?

Yes. Many families add Dharmasthala or swap Kapu for more Udupi time. Ask before you confirm.

What are the payment and cancellation terms?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.

Who should pick a different package?
