Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Coimbatore to Mysore, Palace and Brindavan Gardens
We leave Coimbatore early so you reach Mysore by early afternoon. After a quick check-in, you tour Mysore Palace while it is open. In the evening, drive out to Brindavan Gardens beside the KRS dam to watch the fountain show. Show timings change by season, so we check them for your date.
Day 2: Zoo, Chamundi Hill, Rail Museum and Sand Museum
Start at Mysuru Zoo in the cool morning hours, when children enjoy it most. After lunch, drive up Chamundi Hill to the Chamundeshwari temple and the city view. Finish with the Rail Museum and the sand sculpture museum, both short, easy indoor stops. Your driver may change the order on the day to beat crowds or weather.
Day 3: Srirangapatna sights and return to Coimbatore
Check out and drive about 15 km to Srirangapatna for the Ranganathaswamy temple, Tipu Sultan's summer palace and the Gumbaz. Then we head back to Coimbatore.
How far is Mysore from Coimbatore?
Mysore is about 200 km from Coimbatore via Sathyamangalam and the Dhimbam ghat, roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours with stops. The forest stretch through the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve has night traffic limits, so we always cross in daylight.
Places you will see
Mysore Palace is the city's main sight. The Mysuru district page on the palace says it was built between 1897 and 1912 to a design by Henry Irwin, is open 10 am to 5.30 pm, and is lit with about 97,000 bulbs on Sundays, public holidays and during Dasara. Photography is not allowed inside.
Karnataka Tourism's Mysuru guide covers the wider city, with Chamundi Hills rising behind it. The Rail Museum, run by Indian Railways since 1979, has royal coaches including the Maharani's saloon from 1899, which children tend to like. Opening hours and closing days change, so we check them for your date and plan the day around them.
The Mysuru Zoo was started in 1892 by Chamaraja Wodeyar X and covers 250 acres. The district page lists it as closed on Tuesdays, so we never put Day 2 on a Tuesday.
Srirangapatna is about 15 km from Mysuru. Karnataka Tourism lists the Ranganathaswamy temple, Daria Daulat Bagh (closed Fridays), the Gumbaz where Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali are buried, and the fort.
Best time to go
October to March has the most comfortable weather for walking around the palace and zoo. April and May are hot in the afternoons, so we start earlier. During Dasara (September or October) Mysore is lit up and very crowded, and hotels cost more. Dasara dates change every year, so tell us if you want to travel then.

Frequently asked questions
What does the package include?
It includes an AC vehicle with driver for three days, Coimbatore pickup and drop, two nights in a 3-star or similar Mysore hotel, and fuel, toll, parking and driver charges. Tickets and meals are paid as you go, so you only pay for what your family visits.
Can we see the palace lit up?
Yes, if one of your evenings falls on a Sunday or public holiday. Tell us your dates and we will move Day 1 or Day 2 around it. Brindavan Gardens and the lit palace both happen in the evening, so we split them over two nights.
Is the trip easy for grandparents?
Mostly. The zoo is large, so plan breaks and ask at the gate what help is available. Chamundi Hill is by road to the top.
Can we change the plan?
Yes. You can drop the sand museum, add St. Philomena's Church or spend longer at the zoo. Tell us before we confirm the quote.
Which vehicle will we get?
It depends on group size: sedans, Ertiga, Innova, Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross, Tempo Travellers, Force Urbania, and coach vans or buses for school or family groups. The quote names the vehicle.
How do payment and cancellation work?
A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
Who should pick a different package?
If you also want the hills, the Mysore and Ooty 4-day trip adds a night in Ooty. If your family wants coffee estates and a hill stay, see our Mysore and Coorg three-day trip. For a longer Karnataka holiday, see the 8-day Mysore, Coorg and Chikmagalur tour.
