Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Masani Amman, Aliyar and Monkey Falls

    7:00 AM. Pickup and drive through Pollachi to Anaimalai for darshan at the Masani Amman temple. Amman temples are often busiest on Tuesdays, Fridays and festival days, so your driver may change the order on the day to beat the queue.

    Late morning. Aliyar Dam and the park at its foot. The Coimbatore district page on Aliyar Dam says the dam was built across the Aliyar river between 1959 and 1969, is 81 metres high and has boating.

    Afternoon. Monkey Falls, which the district calls Kavi Aruvi. Its Monkey Falls page lists 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and ₹50 per person, so we plan to reach well before closing. The forest department controls access and may shut the falls in heavy rain.

    Evening. Meal and photo stop in Pollachi, then back to Coimbatore by about 8:00 PM.

How far / how to reach

Aliyar Dam is 64 km from Coimbatore and 24 km from Pollachi by road, and Monkey Falls is about 63 km from Gandhipuram, according to the district pages.

Places you will see

The Masani Amman temple is at Anaimalai, a short drive from Pollachi town. Aliyar sits under the Anamalai hills, and the district notes the view of coconut groves from the top of the dam. Monkey Falls is near Aliyar on the Pollachi to Valparai road, in forest at the foot of the ghat. Bathing depends on the day's flow and the forest staff's call.

Best time to go

The falls run strongest after the monsoon. In peak rain the forest department can close them; in dry months the flow drops. The temple and dam are open year round.

What are the Masani Amman temple timings, and does it close in the afternoon?

Temple timings change on festival days, and a midday break is possible, so your driver checks before you set off. We arrive mid-morning to keep clear of any break.

Can we add Valparai or Topslip?

Not on the same day. The Valparai road has around 40 hairpin bends, according to the Coimbatore district page on Valparai. Take the Valparai one day tour instead. We tell you as soon as we know and add time at Aliyar instead. The entry fee is paid at the gate, so nothing is lost.

How do payment and cancellation work?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
