Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Ooty

    Pickup, then up the ghat road to Ooty. An Isha Yoga Center stop is on request, and we plan the day around it.

  2. Day 2: Ooty and Coonoor

    Doddabetta, the Botanical Garden and the Coonoor viewpoints.

  3. Day 3: Ooty to Mysore

    Down through Mudumalai and Bandipur into Karnataka. Evening at leisure in Mysore.

  4. Day 4: Mysore

    Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and, in the evening, Brindavan Gardens.

  5. Day 5: Mysore to Coorg

    Drive west to Madikeri, with a stop at the Dubare elephant camp.

  6. Day 6: Coorg

    Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat and a coffee estate.

  7. Day 7: Coorg to Wayanad

    South into Kerala through the coffee hills.

  8. Day 8: Wayanad

    Edakkal Caves and a lake or wildlife drive, subject to forest department slots.

  9. Day 9: Wayanad to Munnar

    The longest drive of the trip.

  10. Day 10: Munnar

    Eravikulam National Park, the tea gardens, Mattupetty Dam.

  11. Day 11: Munnar to Thekkady

    Spice garden walk in Kumily and, if seats are free, a Periyar boat ride.

  12. Day 12: Thekkady to Alleppey

    Board a houseboat on the backwaters and sleep on board.

  13. Day 13: Alleppey to Kanyakumari

    Down the coast to Kanyakumari for sunset.

  14. Day 14: Kanyakumari

    Vivekananda Rock Memorial by ferry, Thiruvalluvar Statue, Suchindram temple.

    A long drive home and drop at your pickup point.

How far / how to reach

Ooty is about 90 km from Coimbatore. The Munnar to Mysore distance by road is roughly 330 km, which is why this plan visits Mysore early and reaches Munnar via Wayanad. The last day from Kanyakumari to Coimbatore is about 400 to 450 km, a full day on the road.

Places you will see

We checked each stop against official South India tourism sources. Doddabetta, at 2,623 m, is the highest peak in Tamil Nadu (Nilgiris district). Chamundi Hills in Mysore rise about 1,000 m, with 1,008 steps up to the temple (Karnataka Tourism). Coorg's Dubare camp and Abbey Falls are on the Kodagu district tourism page. Edakkal Caves are a prehistoric rock shelter reached by an uphill walk. Eravikulam in Munnar closes in February and March for calving (Kerala Tourism). Alleppey has around 500 houseboats (Kerala Tourism houseboats), and Kanyakumari's sights are on the district tourist places page.

Best time to go

October to March suits the whole route. Ooty, Coorg and Munnar are among the best places to visit in April in South India, as they stay cool while the plains are hot, but April and May are also the busiest months in the hills, so book early. June to September is monsoon in Coorg, Wayanad and Kerala. Eravikulam is closed in February and March.

₹68,000 to ₹82,000 per person. The per-person rate falls as the group grows, because the vehicle cost is shared over 15 days. Couples go in a sedan, families in an Innova or Innova Crysta, and groups in a Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania. The vehicle is named in your quote.

Unlike tours that fly between cities, this one stays on the road with one driver, so expect some long drives.

Can we change this South India tour plan?

Yes. Drop a place, add a night or swap Kanyakumari for Kochi. Tell us before you book and we send a revised South India tour itinerary with the new price. Changes that add distance add cost.

Is the houseboat night included?

Yes, one night on an Alleppey houseboat is in the plan. The boat type and meal plan are named in your quote. Families of 6 or more may need a two-bedroom boat.

Is 15 days too long with elderly parents?

It is long but steady; changing hotels every one or two nights is the hard part. We can add rest nights or drop a stop.

We only have 3 days. What do you suggest?

If you only have 3 days, our Ooty and Coonoor trip is the easiest choice. With 9 days, the four hill-station loop covers the hills only. For a shorter loop, try Mysore, Coorg and Wayanad in 5 days or Munnar and Wayanad in 4 days. Can you send the full itinerary as a PDF?

What about payment and cancellation?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
