We run it from our office in Ganapathy, Coimbatore, in our own vehicles with our own drivers. One price covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, toll, parking and hotel.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Coimbatore to Munnar

    Pickup in Coimbatore, Isha Yoga Center stop on request, and we plan the day around it, then up through Udumalpet into the tea estates. Check in at Munnar.

  2. Day 2: Munnar sightseeing

    A full day in Munnar: Eravikulam National Park for the Nilgiri tahr, the tea gardens, Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point. This full day gives Munnar the time it needs. Second night in Munnar.

  3. Day 3: Munnar to Thekkady

    Drive to Thekkady. Afternoon spice garden walk in Kumily, and a boat ride on Periyar Lake if seats are available. Night in Thekkady.

  4. Day 4: Thekkady to Alleppey houseboat

    Drive down to Alleppey and board your houseboat around midday. You cruise the backwaters through the afternoon and sleep on board. Your quote names the houseboat type and what meals it includes.

  5. Day 5: Alleppey and Marari Beach

    Off the houseboat in the morning, hotel check-in, afternoon at Marari Beach. Night in Alleppey.

  6. Day 6: Alleppey to Coimbatore

    Have a relaxed morning, then drive back to Coimbatore, about 250 km and around 5 to 6 hours with stops. We drop you at your pickup point in Coimbatore.

How to reach / distance

Munnar is about 150 km from Coimbatore, roughly 5 hours. Munnar to Thekkady is about 90 km, Thekkady to Alleppey about 140 km, and Alleppey back to Coimbatore about 250 km. Allow longer for stops and on season weekends.

Places you will see

Munnar's Eravikulam National Park is open to visitors only in its Rajamala zone and closes every February and March for the tahr calving season, according to Kerala Tourism's Eravikulam page. Mattupetty, 13 km from town at about 1,700 m, has a dam and a lake with boating (Kerala Tourism: Mattupetty).

Thekkady is the gateway to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, and the town of Kumily around it grows cardamom, pepper and cloves (Kerala Tourism: Kumily spice plantations).

Alleppey (Alappuzha) has around 500 houseboats, with bedrooms, toilets, a kitchen and a sit-out deck, according to Kerala Tourism's houseboat guide. Marari Beach is a quiet stretch near the fishing village of Mararikulam (Kerala Tourism: places to visit in Alappuzha).

Best time to go

September to March is the usual season: clear skies in Munnar and calm backwaters. Plan around February and March if Eravikulam matters to you, because it is closed then. June to August is monsoon: the hills are green and houseboats still run, but expect rain most days, and heavy weather can change houseboat plans on the day.

₹28,000 to ₹34,000 per person. The per-person rate falls as the group grows, since the vehicle cost is shared; houseboat size also changes the price. We match the vehicle to your group: sedan, Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta for small groups, Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania for 10 or more. The vehicle and the houseboat are named in your quote.

Frequently asked questions

Is the houseboat private?

We book a private houseboat sized to your group where available, and your quote says whether it is private. Families of 6 or more may need two bedrooms; we show the options and prices before you confirm.

Can we be dropped in Cochin instead of Coimbatore?

No. All our trips start and end in Coimbatore, so the last day is the drive back to your pickup point.

What happens if Periyar boat seats are sold out?

The boats run inside the tiger reserve and sell out on busy days. We book as soon as you confirm. If no seats are left, we suggest another Thekkady activity and the rest of the plan stays the same.

Is this a good Kerala trip with small children?

Yes. The houseboat and beach days are easy. Tell us your children's ages so we plan rest stops and pick a houseboat with a railed deck.

Who should pick a different package?

If you want only a lakeside weekend, try Kumarakom in 2 days. If you have only 2 days, take the Alleppey houseboat escape. If you prefer hills and spice gardens without the backwaters, our 5 day Munnar and Thekkady trip gives Thekkady two nights instead of one. What about payment and cancellation?

A 30% advance confirms your trip, and the balance date is in your written quote. Cancel 15 days or more before the trip and we refund the full advance. From 14 to 3 days before, we refund half the advance. Within 2 days of the trip, the advance is not refunded.
