Which bus should you hire for your group size?

Count your group, then pick the smallest vehicle that seats everyone with a seat or two spare. Our 21 seater coach van suits 19 to 21 people and the 24 seater mini bus up to 24. The 30 seater bus takes 25 to 30, and the 50 seater bus 31 to 50. Every one comes with our driver.

The seat count is for passengers. The driver has his own seat, so a 30 seater carries 30 people plus the driver.

Smaller and bigger groups

For 12 to 18 people a bus is more than you need. Our Tempo Travellers seat 12 to 18 with AC and cost ₹3,000 to ₹3,500 a day. If you were looking for a 22 seater tempo traveller or a 20 seater van, the 21 seater coach van is the size to book, because our Tempo Travellers stop at 18 seats. Under 10 people? At the other end, a search for a 40 or 55 seater bus leads to the 50 seater, which is our largest listed bus. If your group is bigger than 50, call us with the head count and we work out which vehicles can carry everyone.

How much is bus rent per km and per day in Coimbatore?

Bus rent in Coimbatore is a day rate plus a charge for every kilometre driven. The 21 seater coach van costs ₹4,500 a day plus ₹22 per km, and the 24 seater mini bus ₹8,500 a day plus ₹35 per km. The 30 seater bus has a flat day rate with 100 km included. Toll and parking are extra.

30 seater bus rate per km

The 30 seater costs ₹11,000 a day non-AC and ₹16,000 a day with AC, and each day includes 100 km. We have not published a per km rate for the distance beyond those 100 km yet, so for a longer route we quote the whole trip before you book. Split across 30 people, the day rate is about ₹367 each, or about ₹534 with AC.

25 seater mini bus price per km

Our nearest size is the 24 seater mini bus at ₹35 per km plus ₹8,500 a day. With 24 people the day rate comes to about ₹355 each, before km charges. If your number may drop to 21, the coach van at ₹22 per km costs a lot less on a long trip.

Worked example: 2 days to Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal is about 160 km from Coimbatore, so the round trip is about 320 km. Add local sightseeing and assume 360 km over 2 days. This is how the fare adds up before toll and parking:

Mini bus on rent: coach van or 24 seater?

A mini bus on rent from us means the 21 seater coach van or the 24 seater mini bus. The coach van is the cheaper one at ₹4,500 a day, and it is non-AC with a music system. The 24 seater costs ₹8,500 a day and takes 3 more, for groups too big for a Tempo Traveller.

Groups sometimes ask whether two vans cost less than one mini bus. For 21 people, no: two 12 seater Tempo Travellers cost ₹6,000 a day and ₹36 per km together, against ₹4,500 and ₹22 for the coach van. For 24 people it is closer. Two 12 seaters cost ₹6,000 a day against ₹8,500 for the mini bus, and the km charge is about the same (₹36 against ₹35). The two vans have AC, but your group rides in two vehicles with two drivers. If you want everyone together, book the mini bus.

AC or non-AC bus: which should you book?

Book AC for long daytime drives on the plains, such as Madurai or Rameswaram, especially in April and May. Non-AC is fine for hill trips: on the Ooty and Kodaikanal ghat roads the air is cool, so the lack of AC matters less. Our 30 seater comes both ways, at ₹11,000 or ₹16,000 a day.

AC on the 30 seater adds ₹5,000 a day, which is about ₹167 per person with 30 on board. The 21 seater coach van is non-AC only. A group of up to 18 that wants AC pays less in an 18 seater Tempo Traveller at ₹3,500 a day. For the 24 and 50 seaters, ask us whether the bus free on your dates has AC.

Tourist bus hire for pilgrimages, college trips, weddings and company outings

A tourist bus from Coimbatore keeps the whole group in one vehicle, with one driver who follows your plan. Groups hire our buses for temple tours, school and college trips, wedding guest transport and company outings. Give us the pickup points and timings when you book and the driver works to them.

Pilgrimages and temple tours

Palani is about 105 km away, around 2.5 hours, so a bus can go and return in a day. Sabarimala is about 330 km, around 8.5 hours with stops, so plan at least 2 days. School and college trips

For a whole class, the 30 or 50 seater is the usual size. With 30 students, the non-AC 30 seater works out to about ₹367 each per day. Send the number of students and staff and every pickup point. Ooty and Valparai are close enough for a day trip; Kodaikanal needs 2 days.

Weddings and family functions

For a wedding, the bus moves guests between the hall, the hotel and the railway station. Inside Coimbatore, the 100 km included in the 30 seater’s day rate can cover a full day of these trips. Send us the list of trips for the day and we quote one price.

Hiring a bus for a group trip to Kodaikanal, Valparai or Ooty

We do not run public buses, so we cannot sell single seats or give government bus timings. If you are travelling as a group, a hired bus from Coimbatore is priced per vehicle, not per seat, and it leaves when your group is ready. For a single seat, check timings and book on the TNSTC website.

The Valparai climb is slow, so add time for photo stops on the hairpin bends. On all three routes our driver knows the ghat roads and where a mini bus can park near the sights. The same drive times apply on the way back to Coimbatore.

Can you take a hired bus to Kerala or Karnataka?

Yes, a bus hired in Coimbatore can go to Kerala or Karnataka, such as Munnar or Mysore. A tourist vehicle crossing the state border needs a permit and pays entry tax. Our tour packages include both. For a bus on a day rate, tell us every state on your route and we confirm those costs before you book.

What is included in the bus rent, and what is extra?

Every bus rental includes our driver; we do not rent buses for self-drive. The day rate covers the bus and driver for that day, and the km charge covers the distance. On the 30 seater, 100 km a day is included. Toll and parking are extra. Any other charge for your route is written in your quote before you book.
